This was an excellent book. Genetically altered intelligent animals are targeted for extermination but end up saving the Earth and redeeming themselves in front of their foremost opponent. A great story for lovers of animals and science fiction.

* I received a copy of this book for free. The review is my own, honest and unsolicited.

This was advertised as a coming of age novel which it only is in part. The utter selfishness of the protagonist was truly awe inspiring and left me no room for any empathy with him whatsoever. Having used and abused a great number of people including his own family and girl friend, got into serious scrapes with the law both at home and abroad, he is rescued by his family. Sadly however he seems really to have learned nothing by the end. Hence he has not really grown up at all. The writing itself rushes along at a solid pace, but is very uneven insofar as descriptions of place and people are concerned, indeed it feels like these were added in later as an afterthought. Yet somehow this just reinforces the character of the narrator who is only really concerned about himself. I feel like I got caught up in a rushed travel narrative around parts of Europe but the lack of real empathy didn’t really engage me.… (más)

Short (about 150 pages) but absorbing, I enjoyed this scifi dystopian novella featuring GABs - domesticated animals with genetically enhanced brains - who mount a revolution to save themselves and their human protectors from the greedy (and in at least one case insane) CEOs of megacorporations that in the near future of the 22nd century run the world. These megacorps are out to destroy the GABs by labeling them terrorists. Because, without something for the masses to hate, they might just revolt and overturn the oligarchy. The writing was a bit rough, but in a way its lack of polish - as well as its brevity - enhanced the story and kept it from becoming a depressing dystopian tome.… (más)
