was a little lost with this as this is part of a series. I have not read any books in the Bellingham series so I wasn’t familiar with the characters in the book, but the holiday feel of this novella was pleasant. The rescued animals and the children in the book gave it a homey, feel-good vibe. It was quite enjoyable, if a little trite and predictable. Thanks to Book Funnel, the author and publisher for giving me the chance to read this novella.

Polly is a woman trying to escape a situation that was getting out of control in Boston. She decides she needs to make a definitive move so goes back home to Iowa. There she meets a group of people who she begins to think of as good friends. And are those friends characters? Yes they are - I had a few chuckles, especially from her "Jedi Knights who are determined to protect her. And then there's her employee who wants to be more but she's just not ready for that yet. I enjoyed the book, but . . . there was something that was a bit "missing". Even after re-reading it I still felt like it needed more but I don't know why. Maybe it was that it was too pat or needed more tension.

This hasn't made me not to read anything more because she has a good writing style. Maybe just a little more intensity.

This is the fourth in a series of books - you will want to read the previous books before reading this because there are many references to previous happenings. Also this is not the end of a series there's quite a few more so if you don't want to get caught up in a long-term commitment you may want to hold off until your ready.

Polly's mom & dad had a big secret that they kept from Polly and a woman who Polly has never heard of wants to share it with her. That along with all the things that are happening in Polly's life is stressing her out . . . and then she finds another body. The woman is a nasty piece of work who has offended almost everyone in town.

I didn't like this book as much as the previous books. I found Polly to be a brat (In the past I thought she was a strong-willed woman, and I love to read about those as a main character. In this book though she just came across as rude, abrupt and pouty - pouty women are not strong!). I felt that Henry was a doormat in this one - why can't we have a strong woman & a strong male character?

I enjoy the description of Iowa life and the events in the town and I think Polly has made a tremendous difference in people's lives. Hopefully the mysteries will be more central in the upcoming books and Polly will be less of a brat.

The review will be up on accidentallymars.com by the end of the day Monday, February 11th. I wish it would let me give 4.5, because the story itself deserves that. It was the editing that took it down just a little.
