Review: Green Fires by Marnie Mueller. An adventurous amazing story of an assault on Eden: A novel of the Ecuadorian Rainforest.

This is a remarkable outstanding story. The author combines irresistible plot, disappointing political vision and moral exploration in the jungles of Ecuador. The story is about complexity and cultural manipulations trivializing the survival of the uncivilized people who live deep within the jungles. Most of this culture and tribal society have never seen any other cultures and have no knowledge of survival outside of the jungle.

Yet, once again the other people (we know who) are greedy and don’t care what really happens to them. They claim they want to help the tribes but only hide behind the bombs they embark and their dishonest faces. The only thing the governments and corporations see is vast oil spans under the jungle floors. It’s a story about a newly married couple on a vacation hearing and seeing the savagery onset placed upon these natives and tries to help them.

There is a German man who had been living among the natives for years. He does whatever he can to save some of the tribes but his achievements are only belittled and bring unjust harm to himself. The couple is also ambushed to the point of their own survival and trying to get a message out to other people who care and will listen.

This was exceptional novel. It was written well, a fast read (couldn’t put it down), fiction but believable….The only con for me was I wanted a different ending. So, I was disappointed at the end and wished for more…….Yet, I still give it a five star….

Set in Japanese Internment Camp during Pacific War, from pov of white worker in the camp who tries to bridge gap between Japanese internees and government "overseers." Interesting setting but two lead characters become enmeshed in an affair that overcomes real historical drama.
