Compilation. This work is a combination of brief and helpful scholarly "Notes" by the authors with original extracts from the actual Texts of the leading Philosophers -- across a wide span of the subject, and from its origins in Greece, through Europe, to the modern "Philosophy of Science". With Index and interesting Study Questions.
Mourant is an Epistemologist and Freund is primarily an Ethicist, and they cross into other disciplines with care. The compilation is pre-Derrida {where "criticism" is the focus, not just dialectics and speculation [5]).
From the Introductory Note on Plato: "why was Meno so interested in the question of how ARETE, excellence, comes about?" Is it enough to say it is "self-evident" that Meno shared a Graeco aspiration to be "excellent persons"?
Text material for Self-Realization is drawn from Aristotle [35]. Serious translation issues -- such as "Moral excellence is a mean state" [46] where the word mean was meant only to refer to the center avoidance of extremes.
Includes extracts of his writings, and credits Joseph Stalin (from his scholarship at a theological seminary) with having written three "important books", not to mention the USSR Constitution [447 {this authorship has been questioned}].
