A good read, but I caught a couple of howlers. It was the NKVD back then, not the KGB, and the Third Reich was under no ogligation whatsoever under the Tripartite Pact to attack America if the Empire of Japan did --not that Hitler was known for keeping his promises. Lots of interesting detail and period color, but I have to wonder how many other bloopers got in. Good analyses throughout, though, of the critical period when Judeo-Christian Western civilization, the ideals of the Enlightenment, etc., were truly under existential threat. Lots of intricate, high-stakes politicking --it was a close-run thing! But how I wish they'd kept notes during FDR's cabinet meetings!… (más)
