This book takes recent research into how we make decisions and the common biases built into our thinking processes and applies that knowledge to the realm of voting. With a federal election looming in Canada, it was a timely read for me. He makes a strong case for people to be informed about the important issues of the day and aware of their biases as ways of making better political decisions. He also makes a case for institutional reform, such as citizen assemblies, to help us reach better decisions. And he reminds us to pay attention to process, which is increasingly important in a pluralistic society: we may never agree on solutions, but if we agree on the process of generating them, we will be able to compromise.
