Biografía breve
Growing up in the obsolete world of an ex-industrial North, I—Steven Mohr—spent my early life in the midst of a very character shaping environment, an environment filled with blues riffed rock and not so business minded roles. It was an environment that encouraged humility and creativity and asked its adherents for a different kind of production. The old factory lines empty, this new production was less involved in materials and goods and more with thoughts and words and abstract images. It inspired me and others around me to produce music and literature regardless of our socioeconomic background.

I spent the off time in my college days driving around from one grungy stage to another playing in bands and building memories. Then taking O’Connor’s words to heart, “Anybody who has survived his childhood has enough information about life to last him the rest of his days,” I chose to write about what I’ve seen and could have seen. These experiences, however, were only the beginning. Moving across country, marrying, and preparing for our first child, it feels like semi-autobiographical and entirely imaginative narratives could pour out in the volumes.

Presently, living between the western mountains and the eastern shore, I wake up to the fresh North Carolina air every morning with my beautiful wife, Hannah and give thanks for all I’ve been given. On random weekends of pause, me and my transplant wife enjoy playing the parts of winter snowboarders and summer beach bums—at least once in a while!—but always returning to our adopted home somewhere in between in the vast piedmont.

This book had an intriguing premise, but wasn't very good at keeping my interest. A few years out of college, Conor and his friends are given a opportunity to take their now-defunct band on one last tour. This could have been a great story about people finding their true selves or somesuch, but instead it's filled with a lot of juvenile behavior and cheap jokes.

I received this book from Library Thing to read and review. Just like the title, I was listless as I read this book. I did not really hold my interest very well, and I found myself, more often than not, hoping I was near the end. The story involves a now defunct band, who get one last chance to rave the country, playing music as they earlier did. The book is written well enough, just not very exciting. In addition, I wondered about some of the band members actions, which were pretty juvenile, to say the least. I guess the message was that it doesn’t always pay to go back and try to relive the past because, sooner or later, reality smacks you in the face, and you see things are really not very different. I am not sure which audience the author wrote this for. At times, I thought it might me a young adult audience, while at other times I thought it might be the older adult who has “been there, done that”. I do wish the book had held my interest more, however. Nevertheless, I am not giving up on the author and will try other books.… (más)

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review.

I liked the storyline but it didn't hold my interest. I found myself skipping forward a little during some parts. That being said for a debut novel I think it shows the authors potential. I would definitely give the author another try.

* NOTE: I received a copy of this book in exchange for a review. *

The Listless sounds like a book that I would really love. It is about a touring indie band and what goes on with the members over the course of these experiences. The idea behind this story was awesome, but something about it was just too contrived for me personally.
