These are the highly anticipated memoirs of Victoria, Marchioness of Milford Haven. Sister to Empress Alexandra Feodorovna and Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna of Russia, this lady saw a lot of interesting things. In this volume, she tells us of interesting family tidbits and amusing anecdotes that bring the characters of history to even greater life. Extensive footnotes help us bring some of these recollections into context and explain in more detail some of the biographies of the major players.

An introduction and afterword authored by Hessian experts Ilana D. Miller and Arturo Beeche round out this remarkable book. A detailed genealogical table is also included. My only criticism is the amount of minor editing mistakes.

This book is a fantastic read! Meticulously researched, the author presents these four women as if she knew them herself. The four Hessian granddaughters of Queen Victoria lived fascinating existences. Two of them met tragic ends in Russia, one married into the Kaiser's family, and another was the mother of Lord Mountbatten and the grandmother of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

Highly recommended to any student of history, royalty, or anyone just looking for a good biography. Look no further!… (más)
