It had my interest up to the point it became a job search manual. I'm in a transitional period of my career and I believe I've found what I love to do as the book suggests. Coincidently, it happens to be in the career I had when I came out of college 15 years ago.

I feel like I've come full circle in my career but the difference is I'm a business owner instead of an employee. The book had some great nuggets in it but when it focused on finding a "job" I started losing interest. I skimmed forward until it came back to the entrepreneurial advice. I gave this 3 stars, not terrible but took me off course a little.… (más)

Book Review: Wisdom Meets Passion by Dan Miller and Jared Angaza

Introduction: This is a book about different generational approaches to work, money, and education. The authors share their personal stories; they hope that you will take a fresh look at your principles and lifestyle and perhaps those of your children, your parents, your neighbors, or the people living on the other side of the world. They hope to inspire you to be more open to acceptance of people whose experiences may be different from your own.

Chapter 1: I just want to make a difference

I think you and I can agree that we all want to make a difference in the lives of others. We want to create a life that adds value to those around us. This is a passion I know I want for myself as well as those around me. I was born in the 1960s and use to think as the author did that success is a stable job, great paycheck with benefits, a house and secured retirement plan. Today, I just want to make a difference! In my family, they all think that having the same job for 30+ years is honorable. I guess I am the rebel and never did this. I am actually looked down upon. This is what motivates me to try anything and everything to show that one job is just not going to cut it in today's markets. What about you? If we look at celebrities we see that several went from doing a menial job to becoming famous. For example Lucille Ball was fired from an ice cream shop for not remembering to add bananas to a banana split. Tom Hanks started out as a popcorn and peanuts vendor at the Oakland coliseum in California. The list goes on and on. If they can do it why can't you or I?

What are you doing right now to make the world a better, more peaceful and loving place?

What is the one job that sticks out in your journey of getting to where you are today?

What are some of the lessons you have learned that you wish to share with the world?

Remember when you have lost everything, God is up to something. The blessings are right around the corner. More can be gained by focusing on those talents and gifts you know God has given you. Focus on what you are moving to and not what you are moving away from. Be authentically you and let God use you. The bottom line is that we all can choose our attitude and change our negative beliefs and this is the start of a wonderful awareness that will bring the answers to your life's passions.

Chapter 2: Where do I find Security?

This chapter tells us as soon as you line up where they expect you to be at a certain time in the morning; you have now given up your freedom. As soon as you demand a guaranteed income, you have given up the open ended income possibilities. Since I love freedom and want to have more of it, I am seeking my own passions as we speak. I might not understand why my sister has been at the same job for 30+ years and she may not understand why I change jobs like diapers but either way we do what is right in our own lives. She makes a difference in the lives of others by being a computer programmer and an expert in Linux. I make a difference in the lives of others by doing more than one talent and my favorite is doing book reviews such as this one for the authors who provide the book and some for free. My passion is reading and doing book reviews is a passion of mine as well. The market is huge, authors need others to post reviews and I prove my value by doing them for free for two years. Now I have authors contact me and offer to pay me. Granted I had to do this two years for my expertise to get out into the world wide web. It took time. I believe anything that takes time will bring value in the long run. If you wish to find your life's passion this book by Dan Miller will help you open doors.

I enjoyed learning from Dan's insights and wish to share it with all of you. If you so desire to share your passion please hit like or comment below.
