Leon Merian

Interesting memoir of a musician in the big band, swing, and jazz eras of the 40's and 50's. Leon Merian began playing in clubs in Boston when he was a teenager and relates some of his experiences touring with African American big bands in the South. He appears to have been a lively fellow and great fun. A smart and very talented trumpet player, later teacher, his love of music and entertaining shines on every page. The book seems to be pretty much a transcription of oral recordings and what it lacks in depth, it makes up for in enthusiasm.… (más)
