This is a basic but useful commentary on 1 and 2 Kings that gives some of the background information in history of the kingdoms of Israel and Judah, and compares and contrasts the account in Chronicles when needed. It's not verse-by-verse, it's in chunks by king or theme, and I read it alongside my Bible reading schedule in 1 and 2 Kings. All in all, I found both the presentation and information helpful in understanding what can be rather challenging books to follow.
