Autobiography of a Franciscan priest who was founder of St. Monica's Hospital [now Memorial Hospital] in Phoenix, the first to admit women of all races to nurse's training. He was very active in many aspects of social welfare and aroused active opposition by other Catholic hospitals and clergy. When he was ordered to leave the hospital and Phoenix by his order, he resigned the Franciscan order and the Roman Catholic priesthood. This is a well documented account of his life and his disillusionment with Catholic hierarchy. He later married, causing further castigation and persecution, but remained in Phoenix, continued his work and wrote several other books, mostly critical of the Roman Catholic church.
