A gripping book. This is both a mystery set in and around San Francisco, and the story of a drunken newspaper columnist who is fired from his job and then is assigned to a rookie reporter investigating a scandal. Apparently Mc Hugh in his 20 years at the Chronicle did uncover some sleazy goings on among politicians.. The book is marred by the backstory of the main character, which is not believable. Otherwise it would get more stars.
