I wouldn't even have picked something like this up a few years ago. As it is, this book -- consisting of what might seem to be a somewhat dry set of examinations of conscience each focused on a particular sinful tendency (pride, gluttony, envy etc.) -- has been quite helpful. The book provides sample examinations of conscience for what are known in the tradition as the seven deadly sins, plus a few tips for cultivating the corresponding virtues. It is fascinating to realize just how much in the way of spiritual discernment and self-knowledge is distilled down into a book that consists almost entirely of lists questions like "Do I practice recollection?", "Is my obedience, prompt, cheerful and supernatural", and "Have I grown more humble?".… (más)
