Kilian McDonnell, OSB, is a monk/theologian of Saint John's Abbey, Collegeville, Minnesota. He is the author of four other books of poetry: Swift, Lord, You Are Not: Yahweh's Other Shoe: God Drops and Loses Things; and Wrestling with God, all from Saint John's University Press.

In a theological sense [the charismatic renewal movement] touches what is central to the gospel and to the mystery of the Church. The renewal raises substantive theological issues. The present volume of essays is an attempt to clarify some of these issues at the level of serious theological reflection but in a language which is nontechnical. [from the Preface]
A great historical look at the development of the doctrine of the Holy Spirit. I was disappointed though in the application portions of the book. I was expecting to see a lot more insight into the dynamics of our relationship with the Holy Spirit. Over all, it is a good read.
This systematic study isolates those themes with which the early Church proclaimed and celebrated the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan.
