This was one cold hearted book. The writing was exceptional, and the story quite interesting. I like stories that layer in history or some element, in this case fly fishing, that draws my attention, makes me think, and where I may actually learn something. I can only think of about 2 books related to fly-fishing that I have ever read. The first is The River Why which I read about 40 years ago... along with everyone else on the planet (who was old enough to read anyway). More recently the most heinous true crime novel and worst natural history disaster ever: The Feather Thief.

The Feather Thief will forever leave me jaded when it comes to fly-tiers and everything that it encompasses, but I was truly fascinated with the rendering of the art, skill, and obsessions as laid out in this book. I couldn't help it because the book is just that damn good. I felt that all of the characters were expertly drawn, no weak links there.

Thanks to PENGUIN GROUP Viking, and NetGalley for the chance to read [b: Buffalo Jump Blues: Sean Stranahan #5|28008140|Buffalo Jump Blues (Sean Stranahan #5)|Keith McCafferty|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1453060220s/28008140.jpg|48015669] by [a: Keith McCafferty|436242|Keith McCafferty|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1391637873p2/436242.jpg]. I received a free Kindle e-book. The following is my review:

This novel is full of adventure, some history and many ingredients for a perfect "dude book."

If you love fly-fishing, Native Americans and a saloon featuring women swimming in a tank dressed as mermaids, this book is for you.

The writing is good, and although [b: Buffalo Jump Blues|31855954|Buffalo Jump Blues|Maya Rodale|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/book/50x75-a91bf249278a81aabab721ef782c4a74.png|52526001] is #5, it stands alone.

There is something for everyone, mystery, history, romance and murder. Set in Montana, sheriff Martha Ettinger is strong and fearless.

Her character made me fall in love with the story and I read this in just a few hours.

I will recommend this series for our library collection.

It could have been an easy "5" and in many ways was - wonderful use of the English Language; nature descriptions that took you there. Problems? Characters "thin" - after a whilel (except for one or two "sub-characters who showed some promised"; and plot??? it would start to get reader excited but then slip back into "Soap Opera" mood. Not against Soap Operas if that is what one wants, but one reads a murder mystery to read a murder mystery not "Days of Our . . ." Having said that I cannot wait to read the next book in the Sean Stranahan series.… (más)

This is the second book featuring Sean Stranahan the sometime detective, part time painter, and fanatical fly fisherman, who is tasked with helping solve the identities of two bodies and two missing fly fishing lures. Like the first book the mystery is well laid out, and you learn more about fly fishing. This was a great second book.
