From the looks of the other reviews, I am the only one not given a copy for an honest review. Even though I purchased my copy I will still give an honest review. Haha. I read a lot of Zbooks. This one was good, short but then, it is a novella. All of the normal elements are there. It is what is not there that takes away a star. We go from 72 hours after the apocalypse to 2 years later. Sometimes this works, this time it fell short. I think the reason it fell short is that the heroine is a young woman who, at the 72 hour mark had grabbed supplies and went to her hideout in the woods. Two years later she is still alive and has been living in the woods by herself, in a tent. There was nothing really there on how she managed to live in a tent in the woods for those years, except a blurb about a couple times she left. The story line is interesting. The heroine is likable. We just are left wondering what she did and how she survived for two years. Were there no zombies ever in the woods? Are the woods a safe zone? What did she do to keep from going crazy? How did she deal with her dad's death and her killing a zombified child? How did she survive, mentally as well as physically? We don't know. What was written though was good reading. I paid $0.99 for about 50 pages. Not bad. But this is a novella series meaning we will keep paying for installments. I think I would like to know approximately how many novellas are in the series before really investing myself. At 99 cents for each installment, 8 would be about $8. Not too bad but I would expect more to the story to justify the pricing. I think the author does well with descriptive writing. She did bring the horror to you. The cliff hangar was a good one, though I hope book 2 will not lose sight of being a Zbook and turn into romance fiction. Some romance would be fun but let's not lose sight that it is a Zbook.… (más)

Poor writing. Self-entitled author wants you to pay more than you should for an incomplete story. Avoid.

This review is from: State of Decay (Part One) (Kindle Edition)
State of Decay-Peggy Martinez-I will read a favorite genre until I begin to tire of it and then I will on to something different. It had been a while since I read any horror and I had never read anything Zombie so I thought I’d try dystopian /apocalyptic. I thought it would be too far fetch. I mean..Who could believe the majority of human population eating each other for dinner?
Well, I was pleasantly surprised reading State of Decay. It was not anything like I feared it would be. It kept me on edge and eager to turn the page. I couldn't wait to get to the end, which I loved too. It certainly leaves me eager to read more and I will be reading the entire series.
It could use a good editing. There are many words missing and duplicate sentences. I think I marked some of them in Shelfari so the author is aware. Other than some errors, the storyline and writing is great. The author is very descriptive and well versed.
Melody is lovable. A young girl facing the world all alone while it is falling apart and crawling with sick people who cant wait to have her for dessert. A situation like this would certainly make her grow up fast!
In ending I ‘d like to say this is a great book and I have marked the author down so I can easily find her and read more of her imaginative talent.
