Lynda V. Mapes is a longtime reporter for the Seattle Times, specializing in coverage of the environment, natural history, and Native communities. She researched and wrote Witness Tree while a Knight Science Journalism fellow at MIT and a Bullard Fellow at the Harvard Forest.
