We have a lot of photographs here, and an informative text. Canada's river class destroyers were sourced from RN discards, of the A to G classes with two purpose built for Canada. They were very seldom deployed as classical destroyers while in Canadian hands. However, their very valuable war service was as long range convoy escorts, where their radar and sonar arrays were very useful. Into the bargain, they did contribute directly by sinking a number of German U-boats. We usually deployed about seven of them at a time, as the group had the usual numbers of accidents and the wear and tear of the service is fully revealed in the quite valuable records compiled by John Burgess. A valuable book, but not quite as flashy as one might hope.… (más)
