From the back of the book:

When we find we have a serious illness, we suddenly realise it's time to change our ways. Life has been too busy for years. Full of so many necessary, but superficial things. Never time to do the things we always wanted to do. No time to think what is really important. No room to ponder what might enrich the way we live our lives.

Not only at times of serious illness. Retirnment, ageing, the crisies of life -all, in a sense, ringing the first bell for us in life's journey. If we hear it and heed it, we have time to choose to do something significant, enjoyable and inspiring before the next bell rings.
The words and images of this book are gathered together to be messages to the mind and spirit- for the enhancement of our lives, for the inspiration of our humanity. They might also become an encouragement to continue the search for more of the same. At critical times, we all need enhancement and inspiration!
