He was in the Marines, fresh out of the downside of Butte Montana and they sent him to Guadalcanal. The jungle was dank and the enemy sometimes quite efficient. Had he known in advance what it was going to be like, he'd have smuggled in liquor. The book has been reprinted, so it had an audience.
