- Hannah Lynch, born in Dublin, was a supporter of the Irish Fenian movement. She moved to Paris and continued the newspaper United Ireland, which was suppressed in 1881. She also worked as the Paris correspondent for the periodical The Academy and various other magazines and reviews. Many of her novels, such as An Odd Experiment (1897), deal with issues facing what was then called the "New Woman" emerging in the late 19th-early 20th centuries. Autobiography of a Child (1899) recounted the experiences of an abused girl that the author said were dictated to her.
