In short, I had a good time with this study, as Lomas does a good job of keeping things in perspective, while moving her narrative along briskly. As to why Rome arrived at the predominance it did, a lot of it boils down to a willingness to be inclusive, and coming up with political institutions capable of responding effectively to crisis; be they external or self-induced.
