I read this book when turning my memoir into a novel. My memoir-turned-novel became a young adult book instead of a steamy adult book fit for a season of Sex and the City abroad. My young adult novel, The Take and Go, was an entry in Amazon's Breakthrough Novel Award. Alas, it did not win, but it is under consideration as I type.

Trashy, quite crude & vulgar. Klein (yes, she uses her surname in this pretentious manner, except for being called Kiki by one of her boyfriends - almost as bad) is unbearably self-absorbed and shallow. She claims to want marriage & children, but spends all her time pursuing an assortment of no-commitment hipster French bastards, apparently her only criteria being their hot looks. Poor-quality writing and a protagonist who makes you want to reach through the pages and belt her. Sorry I wasted my money and my eyesight on this one.… (más)

Shall we just call a whore a whore? I hope the true grand courtesans of the Belle Epoque weren't this crude and vulgar. This is a revolting book, not only because of the American slut thinking she is a successful French courtesan amongst the rich old men of Paris, but because the writing is atrocious and the character of Alexandra smugly believes she is such hot stuff. I'm glad I only picked this up at Goodwill because I would hate to have spent much money on it.
