This story reminds me of The Red Book by Barbara Lehman, giving the overall message that everything in the world is connected. In this story, a young girl who lives in the Arctic cold named Immi was fishing for dinner when she reeled up a colorful bird. Immi thought the bird was beautiful, and tied it around her neck next to a white polar bear charm. As the days go on, Immi reels in more colorful treasures. From a feather to a starfish, Immi decorated her igloo with these finds. Because of her colorful home, she gets visitors to come and eat with her, share stories, etc. As the season changes and Immi's igloo melts, it was time for Immi to move alone. Before she left, she dropped her polar bear charm into the water. The polar bear charm eventually found its way to a boy on a colorful island. He picks the charm up and tied it around his neck, where a colorful bird used to be. This story shows that although we all live on different parts of the Earth, we are all linked and connected to each other in some way, even if we do not know it.… (más)

Set in the snowy wilderness, a young girl named Immi searches for supper. To her surprise a little wooden bird is what she caught instead. Immi continues to catch other things and because of this receives a lot of visitors. In the end, Immi's gifts are found in a far away land. This story reflects the moral of giving to others and can be used to teach middle elementary children.
