I adored this book! I found it at the right time; when I had just begun getting serious about committing to witchcraft. I was already taking an in-person class to learn about ritual, spell casting, and the history of witches, so this book was a perfect accompanying primer.

I loved the focus on feminine power and empowerment, on reclaiming and remembering. This is very much a book written for and about cis-gendered women. It doesn't address male witches or transgender witches. It has a particular focus, and women embarking on this journey will resonate with it deeply.

Lisa Lister shares bold, unapologetic teachings about the roots and true nature of feminine strength. And I am unapologetically on board with ALL of it.

Even though the author mentions a lot that this book is mainly how she practices and what her craft means to her and that it's meant to inspire not instruct, I found this book extremely odd and weird to read, at times even dangerous.

If you're a male witch, don't read it.
If you're trans, don't read it.
If you're even slightly unsure of your gender identity, don't read it.

I found it very exclusionist and pretentious and ignorant, and a lot of it made me cringe involuntarily because it felt like I was in the first row of one of those culty self-improvement, mlm sceme presentations. I'm not a person that likes to write negative reviews, so that's how stronly I feel about all of this.… (más)

I absolutely loved the first two chapters of this book. I felt empowered and passionate about reconnecting with my witch side. Unfortunately, the rhetoric used in the beginning is just reiterated throughout the rest of the book. For a text that is described as including “the history behind witchcraft,” I expected a lot more unbiased historical research. I will admit that there are some great parts of this book—I especially appreciated the spells, rituals, and explanations of the holidays—but overall, I think Lister made her point by chapter two and the rest was redundant.… (más)

If every woman read this book, we would change the world...for the better. I highly recommend this book to all women, and Witches in particular, because it speaks to us in so many levels as it encourages us to break down the prisons of the patriarchy. I love Lisa Lister’s unapologetic voice, her audacity, her refusal to be timid, to think inside the box, to color within the lines, and to fit within the mold, all designed for those of us with ovaries by those without them.

Wake up sisters, find your voices, and join the movement to take down the patriarchy as we take back our autonomy.… (más)
