An absolutely thrilling and inspiring story. The pictures definitely helped illustrate the book, and Linsdau will have you holding your breath as he overcomes seemingly impossible obstacles at the bottom of the earth. You can almost feel the icy winds and subzero temperatures as he travels to the pole from the Antarctic coast. The biggest challenge has to be the mental one, however. Literally alone in the middle of a frozen wasteland where often there is no horizon, no sky, and there are absolutely no other forms of life, you are alone with your own thoughts, with no one to talk to, no one to encourage you, and it's a true test of your mettle and inner strength. An absolute must-read.

Lets meet our real life explorer as he attempts to try and climb Denali in Alaska and tackles the ordeals it brings. Very interesting to read a true account and amazing to find out how much preparation and planning goes into an expedition, reaching his goal, and then the short window of opportunity he has to achieve it. The hours of training in the gym to be fit, double checking you have all the right equipment, because without it it could mean death, and the worst thing of all meals and the lack of toilet facilities.

We meet our adventurer in Alaska travelling to the base camp. As he ascends and travels you feel his pain and his fear of failing, the anguish of what people will think of him. You can also imagine the beautiful sights and sounds he is experiencing. Enjoy the camaraderie between the climbers he meets at various camps and the trust they have in each other relaying the important information on weather conditions and weak spots in the ice, it's paramount to them to not only reach the top but keep themselves safe.
