This book was a really interesting look into North Korea and its policies and attitudes. I remain heartbroken for the people of North Korea and am truly glad that Mrs. Ling and Mrs. Lee were able to make it back home.

The reason I can only give this book four stars is because of the terrible dialogue tags (how exactly does one "smirk" out a sentence?) and distracting abuse of adverbs. I had the audio version so it was even more apparent. I don't blame either of these courageous women, but their editor. They are clearly very passionate and dedicated journalists. Hearing their story told in their own voices made it especially poignant. I'm touched and awed by the experience. This and the documentary "Kimjongilia: The Flower of Kim Jong Il," which exposes a bit of what Laura and Euna were trying to uncover, have made me want to become more active for North Koreans' rights.… (más)

Audible edition. Journalist captured while at the border documenting stories of human trafficking. Held in North Korea for ~5 months; sentenced to 12 years' hard labor. Befriends some of her guards, has ulcer diagnosis and procedure in DPRK, rescued by Bill Clinton.
