Gordon Lightfoot (1938–2023)

Magnificent documentary about one of the greatest songwriters and singers who has ever lived. The interviews and footage with the almost-80 year old Lightfoot are wonderful as he reflects on his career and some regrets. The archive footage dating back to the early 60s--and even some sound clips of him singing as a boy soprano in a church choir--are wonderful, and the talking head commentary by fellow Canadian musicians is well chosen and insightful. But it is the songs that take center stage. Just a few lines and you begin to recall not just their incredible melodies, but the memorable and poetic lyrics. If all you know if "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" you've missed about 99.9% of the story. Highly, highlyl recommended.… (más)
