As stated in the Introduction, the book is not a military history of the Civil War. Rather, LINES OF CONTENTION explores popular views of the war, and incidents surrounding the war as these are presented by the editorial cartoons of the day. So, the book is the history of attitudes, incidents, as reflected through the eyes of the contemporary commentators. Excellent cartoons put together from the Harper's Weekly, Vanity Fair, Punch, and many others. Bibliography and index are helpful and enhance the book making it an important resource in many projects.… (más)
