Angela, the newest of the arrivals, was determined to escape. Laura and Danielle had been captive for a few months; they followed Angela’s lead. Missy, held captive the longest, needed Angela to guide her. Their captors had taken their shoes away, believing that being shoeless would keep them from running away.

They were wrong.

Remembering that she’d seen a warehouse only a couple of blocks away, she led the others toward what she hoped would be a safe place to hide.

What will happen to this group of abandoned, forgotten, and abused? Can they find their way to a brighter tomorrow?

Each background story reveals the traumas and tragedies that have brought them to this place. Each compelling story shows the person’s true character; each hoping for a brighter future and willing to work toward that end.

Readers will find themselves caught up in each of the stories, rooting for each to find that brighter future. Since this is a prologue to the series, readers will need to read the following books to find out what happens to each of them.

I was super excited for an angsty story about a betrayed heroine and the hero groveling and wooing her back. This is not that story. Heroine is a doormat who, at one point, begs the hero not to divorce her and to give their marriage another try, despite him being a complete and utter asshole to her. The hero occasionally nags her to eat, and this is presented as proof that he is a good guy? And where was the groveling?? I scrolled back and forth looking for it when the book ended. How anticlimactic! Also, the brother's secret fiance thing was WEAK. Sure, maybe he hides it from his mom because she is a bitch and he is a wimp, but why the hell would that be allowed to destroy a marriage??? There was so much good buildup for a great grovel but it fell short. (1.5 stars)… (más)
