Tom Lange was born on April 14, 1945 in Milwaukee, Wis. His given name is actually Frederick Douglas, but his older sisters gave him the nickname Tom, which he has used ever since. Lange served with the U.S. Marine Corps from 1963 to 1966, advancing to the rank of sergeant and receiving several mostrar más awards, including the Bronze Star, for his service in Vietnam. After leaving the Marines, he entered the Los Angeles Police Academy, graduating in 1967. He also earned an associate degree in Administration of Justice from the Los Angeles Valley College in 1976. He is qualified in both federal and California State Superior Court as an expert witness in homicide investigations and blood-spatter examination. Lange worked for the Los Angeles Police Department since 1968, and in the Homicide Division since 1979. His most notable case began on June 14, 1994, when he and his partner, Philip Vannatter, were called to the scene of a double homicide. The victims were Ron Goldman and Nicole Brown Simpson. As the lead investigators for the case, Lange and Vannatter were involved in all aspects of the investigation. In 1997, the two detectives collaborated with crime reporter and author Dan E. Moldea to write Evidence Dismissed: The Inside Story of the Police Investigation of O.J. Simpson. Lange retired from the police force in 1996, and became a licensed private investigator in California. He is also a motion picture and television consultant.
