Gr 4–7—Henry Khoo's desire for independence from his helicopter family leads him on a solo plane trip to
Singapore, where his father lives. On Henry's journey of self-discovery, he learns that nothing is as simple as it
seems and there are consequences to his actions—especially for the rumor blog he created, "Fly on the Wall."
Henry's development throughout is flawlessly accented by Lai's illustrations, resulting in a dynamic and engaging
reading experience.

This is a book with a sweet protagonist and adorable illustrations; I particularly love how Star's ears look like hearts. There is definitely a heavy-handed message about how humans are causing destruction to the natural world, but it's not all doom and gloom. Ultimately, Star and his family find a home at an elephant sanctuary where they are well cared for with plenty to eat. The backmatter also contains suggestions for ways that readers can do their part in reducing their environmental impact. Additional backmatter includes some facts about Asian elephants and other wildlife.… (más)

An illustrated middle grade novel about an 11yo and his annoying younger brother's experience immigrating to a new country and coping with grief, through baking. That sounds like a grim description as I'm writing it, but it is really funny and moving at the same time.
