Lajos Koltai

A beautiful film switching between a society wedding in the 1950s and an elderly woman remembering it, lying on her deathbed. Poignant but not at all morbid; Vanessa Redgrave is perfect as the elderly Ann, matched with Claire Danes as her younger counterpart.

Engrossing, moving and ultimately uplifting. We saw this just six and a half years after first seeing it, and had almost entirely forgotten it. Rated 12 which seems about right; unlikely to be of interest to children or teens anyway.

Very highly recommended.
