Willie Nelson is one of the most recognizable names and faces (or perhaps I should say braids) in all of country music. This graphic history illustrates the major pieces of his life, his music, his family, his marriages and divorces, the highs and the lows so far. It gives readers visuals for some of the inspiration behind his hits as well as a glimpse into what has made the man. Each of the seven chapters is illustrated by a different comic artist so the book has a multitude of styles to it. This can cause a lack of continuity and some confusion visually, especially when certain people instrumental in Nelson's life are drawn so very differently. The written biography is fairly superficial and simple so many fans will already know the outline of the information here. Nelson is undoubtedly a legendary singer songwriter so although basic, this is a decent and creatively done introduction to the man behind the music.… (más)

A pretty basic and straightforward biography of a very entertaining individual. Told mostly in captions, it is not an exciting presentation, but Willie has led quite a life, with a focus here on his years of professional struggle and his tempestuous love life -- a repeating cycle of marriage, children, infidelity and divorce. And, hey, there are a couple panels with my main man, Johnny Cash, so bonus day.

Each chapter is drawn by a different artist. I preferred the detailed style of Chapter 1 by Coşkun Kuzgun, but the rest are fine enough even though they vary wildly in style, with only one inky and blotchy chapter dipping down to below-average.… (más)

Andy reflects on his life, recalling the unfortunate situations and poor choices that have lead up to his current less-than-stellar existence. When a surprising wrinkle arises, he begins to wonder if he can change the path that he is on. But sometimes the best intentions simply aren't good enough...

This is a poignant story, rather thoughtfully presented in a slim volume. The illustrations are a little less realistic than I generally prefer, but they fit the tone of the book just perfectly.

There is no happy ending here, so it's not for those who seek that kind of fulfillment. However, it is beautifully arced. Recommended for those who enjoy "slice of life" type stories.… (más)
