There were many things I liked about this and some things that kinda rubbed me a bit off but overall I enjoyed this romantic suspense.

Like the blurb says, Jason is a single dad on vacation in Montana for his nature loving daughter, Maggie. There, they meet up with friendly charismatic ranger Ben, and sparks fly. When a killer on the run takes Maggie hostage, Jason and Ben are forced into a harrowing situation that obviously will bond them forever.

For me, I personally wasn’t quite as prepared for Jason’s sudden, seemingly out of nowhere revelation about his sexuality and it threw me off. However, awaken it does, as Jason’s charmed by the trustworthy Ben who shows him and Maggie around the national park. Once the life and death terrifying situation is resolved, Jason and Ben ‘s literal coming together was way too lightening quick for my tastes despite my like in all things new to MM smex. The potential for further exploring that at a greatly different pace was missed imo.

Note that these are personal grievances. Despite the above, I did enjoy the story but I didn’t love it, and by the looks of things from the majority of readers, I’m definitely the odd man out. Regardless, I still liked how the romance unfolded. The suspense had me on edge, and I loved Ben who’s a total dreamboat. Both he and Jason have had it rough regarding their pasts, and both are in a deep rut of stagnation, indecision, and fear. Thankfully, they realize their stupidity and stubbornness and take a chance on happiness with each other, leaving me very satisfied with that sweet sweet ending!

I read this maybe a year ago. It was powerful and moving - who could forget the night of the buggy accident in the snow storm.

The writing was excellent - Keira Andrews is one of my most admired authors. Same for narrator John Solo. Andrews has written around 55 novels, and I've read 7, so plenty more to go!

I left off Rumspringa in chapter 15/18. I wanted to finish the story, but in a way I was never going to go back to it because I was worn out! The audiobook is nearly 9 hours and intense.

I haven't been drawn to Amish stories - being a voyeur into such a weird sect didn't appeal and I can't stand extreme or religious conservatism and close mindedness. But it was more interesting than I expected to meet these characters and this community.

(Later) Stumbling across A Clean Break, book #2 in the series, drew me back to finish Rumspringa and I'm glad I did.… (más)

A 4-hour novella by Keira Andrews, who is fast becoming one of my go to authors for reliably good romance.

Gavin and Charlie discovered their feelings for each other in about Year 10 - Gavin ran for the hills. He spoke with his father, who was who told him his sexual orientation was a phase. The isolated Charlie hates Gavin for abandoning him and they don't speak again ... until they meet at a rental car desk on the eve of Christmas 4 years later, after a snowstorm has cancelled flights.

Very reluctantly, they share the last car, and the drive home across most of the US provides the setting for the great reconciliation. They finally reveal to each other what really happened back then. The result is, they are given back their lives and a chance at happiness.

It's touching and adorable.… (más)
