An introduction to the possibilities and methodologies of using psychology and psychological theories in Biblical criticism. The author is aware of the limitations of psychological interpretation, the relative newness of the field, and the justification for the suspicion of previous attempts to make sense of the Bible using psychological methods.

The author begins with a discussion of definition, history, and methods, and spends the rest of the time showing the various psychologically based interpretations of Genesis 3, including the Freudian, Jungian, and developmental schools.

In the end, the author concludes that psychological Biblical criticism can help provide a different perspective on a text, but ought to be used in concert with other methodologies to make the best sense of the text.

In my estimation, there is still good reason to be suspicious of the psychological systems and their claims regarding the texts since so little is known about what is going on behind the texts.

Nevertheless, a helpful introduction.
