An extremely comprehensive (although not strictly chronological) history of the National Radio Astronomy Observatory, including its origins and its various different projects, real and proposed. It's definitely not what you'd call a beach read. I have a personal interest in the subject matter, since I work for NRAO and know a number of the people mentioned here, and even I found it really, really dry. There may be an interesting story here or there, maybe even a few reports of some funny thing someone said while wrangling over funding, but there are a lot of places where it's just long lists of budget figures, or technical specs, or details about who was present at which meeting when. But then, as an academic tome whose goal is to go deep into that kind of thing it's no doubt doing what it needs to do.… (más)
