I personally found this to be a story that provided a great lesson in a questionable manner. This traditional literature picture book' s most recent print was in the 1960s and the old age of the text leaves students with outdated photos that could possibly be hard to relate to at an elementary age. Overall, the storyline itself proved to contain rather heavy topics for young students to grasp and cope with and therefore do not think this is an appropriate read for young students. On the other hand, the author used rich detail in her writing that allowed students the opportunity to channel their imagination to paint their own pictures of the scenes of the story. The author was also able to create a story that leaves readers with a powerful message of being mindful of who you trust, even if they appear to be trustworthy and kind.… (más)

Summary:
This book is about the role of a mommy portrayed in a childlike manner. A young child is carrying out the role of a mommy and is taking care of her three children which are her dolls. She carries out duties a mom would do such as cleaning the house, washing the clothes, baking and calling the doctor for a sick child. She also cooks dinner, bathes them, reads to them and gets them ready for bed. She also then goes to bed. This book portrays a day in the life of a mom.

Personal Reaction:
I really like this book. This book is definitely realistic in portraying the life of a mom with three children. I know this full well with trying to raise three children of my own. I really like the way the book is written for young readers to help understand what the life of a mom is truly like. It is hard work and yet is fun at the same time.

Extension Ideas:
1. Have the class draw and color a picture of them and their mom.
2. Have the class write down three things they appreciate about their mom
3. Have the class write in a journal at least two things they learned from the book in regards to life as a mom

A great story of a young girl taking care of her dollies. The text rhymes nicely, the older brother becomes the "father" and the girl has a meal for the dolls and their father , washes dollie dishes and so forth. Illustrations are 80% of the book and appropriate for the story. This is a good book for little girls with dols.
