This book is a biography about the first female pharaoh in Egyptian history. She was born in 1520 BC and began her rule as a teenager. She brought many beautiful and useful changes to Egypt. This book gives detailed information about her kingdom as well as Egyptian history.

This book was very interesting for me. My children and I always pick biographies to read that are about people who are less famous and this was a very good one to help learn about pyramids, tombs and mummies. Their were lots of side notes that told little known facts about the times and area.

As an extension, this book could be used in conjunction with a study of Egyptian history to help learn interesting facts that most history books do not have. The teacher could also use other reference books about mummies and tombs to help children get a better idea of the time. Next, it would be fun to find out more about heiroglyphics and see if the children could even make their own.

This book is a nonfiction book. It covers general information about exploration and explorers. It also gives specific information about specific explorers. Some of those include, Christopher Columbus, Amerigo Vespucci, John Cabot and others. This is a good example of a nonfiction for children because it presents the information partly in narrative form and partly in factual terms.
