This is a good example of realistic fiction because it is about a boy and his grandma who go to a beach and after a storm find things that would wash up after a storm.

Review—

Genre: Realistic Fiction

Age Appropriateness: Lower primary

Setting: This story takes place at a beach house in Oregon. The grandmother has a beach house at Twin Rocks. The time is unclear however.

Characterization: Ben is the little boy in this book and he is the protagonist in this story. And the reader gets to see Ben transform from a selfish child to one that is more respectful of what his grandmother is trying to teach him. He has developed into more of a dynamic character towards the end of the story.

Plot: Ben goes with his grandmother to their summer beach house at Twin Rocks. The boy learns more about his father and that being with his grandmother is not all that boring anymore. They plan events and eat meals on the beach together. At the end of the book there is a special treasure that is found that unites these to more than ever.
