3 Stars

Well, I'm glad that is over.
Up to chapter 11 this story just rambles around Sophia. Boring and repetitive. Filled with unnecessary information. What I call 'Much About Nothing'. There is also an enormous amount of words used throughout the story describing Every Room & Building that is mentioned in the story, for any reason, in excruciating detail.

It picks up in chapter 11. This is mainly due to the character Viktor & that there is finally some truly hot and steamy scenes from this point on.
However Sophia and the 'Mission' her & her friends are involved is virtually all talk and no action. Whatever it is they are doing that should be considered 'Suspense' gets very little action time. There are conversations and that is about it.

My 3 stars are for the story from chapter 11 on. If I had based my rating on the first 10 chapters it would have been a flat out DNF 0. That section was that boring and only my persistence to not Dnf kept me reading.

I'm glad this book finally got to a storyline, after beginning with a raunchy sex scene that took up the first 39% of the book. I was about to quit reading but then the book introduced the characters and gave a brief look into the story.
There really was nothing solid here but I'll go ahead and purchase the 1st book because it seems to have a little mythology in it and it may have a more complicated plot than what was presented here. I mean, the entire prequel only took me an hour to read so how much could the author have packed in here. Well, maybe a lot more if she would have shortened the first sex scene.… (más)

I tried. I really did. But this book was just an excuse to write porn. I mean, I should have known from the names of the books and from the prequel where the first 39% of the short book was a raunchy sex scene. After the sex scene though, an interesting plotline began so I thought the series had potential so I went ahead and purchased the first book.
What a mistake!

Here’s the gist of what I did read. I tried so hard to read the entire book and give it a chance but I had to give up after only reading half the book. It starts out with a group of immortals who guard the realms called the Guardians. There are two immortal brothers and a sister who are not supposed to be in the human realm but since they are able to kill demon-possessed humans, unlike the Guardians who are unable to harm humans, the Guardians turn a blind eye to the siblings being in the human realm but if the Guardians actually encounter the siblings, they will have to exile them to another realm where they will never be able to return to the human realm. The other realm is archaic and has no electricity so the siblings are hell bent on not going there.

The sister, Alexandria or Alex, has had the hots for one of the Guardians, Urian, for centuries and goes to sex clubs to watch on the sidelines as Urian and another Guardian have sex with humans. Far be it for me to judge….nah, I’m going to judge. I was disgusted with the crude sex scene and how they treated the human women. They tag teamed one woman while Alex watched. I get that there are different strokes for different folks but this is not for me. Alex teleports out before Urian can ever talk to her.

When one of the brothers becomes seriously ill and starts to die, Alex tells her other brother to hold off on going to the Guardians healer so she can go seek help elsewhere. She teleports herself onto Urian’s lawn. Instead of immediately asking for help, she starts humping on him. She goes into some sort of sex-crazed frenzy and can only think of having sex. Two other Guardians show up and capture her and put her in a cell with Urian who is also in the same sex-crazed frenzy. They have sex and even afterwards, she still does not say anything about her brother or try to get help. What a good and caring sister!

I hate when authors make all their characters into over-sexed maniacs who are driven by sex and not their brains. It is just an excuse to write erotica. I do love a great sex scene but I want a real story not a porn movie.

The other thing that sickened me was how when the siblings went on a mission to save a kidnapped girl, they got all bent out of shape because one of the siblings was hogging the kills like they enjoyed killing so much that they fought over it. I think this author is twisted and I don’t know why anyone would read this crap.

I enjoyed the premise, it was definitely something different. There was a lot going on in this book, at times a little too much, but the overall plot made sense for the context. It was an enjoyable adventure into myth for the most part, and the writer's evolution of the species was interesting and new. I had two major issues with this book, which is why I wish Gooodreads would allow for half stars in ratings, because this book would get 3.5 stars in my opinion. Issue one, and the biggest for me, was how the sexual assualt was handled by the writer. It was so bad I almost put the book down permanently. That is a very serious issue and should be handled accordingly, I know the setting was such a departure from reality but some things can't be glossed over. I felt like the severity of the violation was minimized too much and it bothered me for the scene itself and the subsequent "aftermath". Obviously, I went on to finish the book, but that definitely tainted the rest of the story and my overall opinion. The second issue, while less socially serious is kind of a huge deal for literature, the ending was too sudden, too incomplete. It was jarring to read the big action scene and then suddenly jump to the after violence regroup for what felt like two paragraphs, then very suddenly we are with a secondary character whose had no major role for most of the story and then that's it? It felt unrealistic and very unsatisfying. The rest of the story built a great foundation and was mostly very enjoyable, then the ending fell kind of flat. It might pick up in the second book, but I'm not sure if I want to read it with the possibility of another sudden ending where you feel sort of like the story just got dropped, along with the reader.… (más)
