Would you keep a secret for your boyfriend if he was gay and didn't want anyone to know even if it meant losing out on the love of your life and your reputation in a small military town? Jackson combines hard moral choices with well-researched military knowledge and jazzy storytelling to tell what one girl, Sophie, chose to do. Slow start to the story but a good finish.

“How can you possibly think I’d want you to sacrifice yourself to save me? As if there wasn’t enough danger, now I have to worry you’ll take a bullet for me.”
My arms crossed as his anger ignited my own.
“As if, you jerk. You can take your own stupid bullet.”

This is my second book of Corrine Jackson and I'm really happy to see that I loved it as much as I loved [b:If I Lie|10564983|If I Lie|Corrine Jackson|http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1324452777s/10564983.jpg|15471867]; though the two stories couldn't be more different, my enjoyment and the tears I shed certainly prove that I'm falling for Ms. Jackson incredible writing. The subjects she deals with are not for the faint of heart and not ones you see much in young adult novels these days.

What I love about her heroines (and I hope she won't change that at all) is that, they are not meek or dependent in spite of their misery. Remy spent five years of her life suffering through domestic abuse at the hands of her stepfather but she wouldn't let him take pleasure in seeing her cry or crumple to his feet begging for him to stop. No. She stood silent to protect her mother and as long as she could heal her multiple injuries.

My heart wrenched every time she related what the monster did to her body day after day and what hurt the most was seeing her completely broken emotionally as well, thinking she isn't worth saving or dying for, until Asher Blackwell came along.

Their chemistry and sweet love story was off the charts. Her reactions to his protectiveness were priceless (as shown by the quote above) and it felt good to see for once a heroine capable of taking care of herself and letting a boy love her for her and not just waiting around for him to save the day. In a way he healed her heart and made her believe she's worth it (which brought me to tears, again)

I already miss Remy and Asher and I can't wait to read more of Corrine Jackson's books; because Asher Corrine you really captured my heart.

Sometimes a moment defines you, defines how people see you the rest of your life. You can accept it or fight it. If you’re lucky, you’ll recognize the moment when it happens.

The heartbreaking moving story of Sophie Topper Quinn; a fresh voice, honest and gritty, and deeply emotional. Think several-punches-in-the-gut emotional.

Despite everything she went through for the sake of protecting her boyfriend Carey: the insults, the bullying, losing all her friends, being ignored by her father and secluded from the rest of the town... Sophie stayed strong 'till the very end, she kept her promise to not reveal Carey's secret, and stood her ground when I could have easily crumbled down and faded into nothingness from all that verbal bullying. I lost count of the times I stopped reading because of the big lump in my throat and my urging need to hug Sophie.

The writing kept flowing, so heart-wrenching and beautiful, I was genuinely surprised when I read that this is Ms. Jackson debut novel. Well kudos! I'm eager to read more from you.
