Terrific information about various international breads unfortunately all the recipes are written for use with a bread machine. So some additional steps are needed to modify the recipes for use without the machine. One discussion of how to modify recipes can be found here: http://www.tasteofhome.com/healthy/live-well/ask-our-dietitian/question-archive/... Other than that, the book is great for showcasing various bread types to try, and what with so many recipes on the internet, this is book provides a good point from which to start additional research.… (más)

I, personally, think this is worth only two stars, because so many of the recipes call for lots of carbs (breaded this, sandwich that, potato the other...) and a lot of them are fried/ deep-fried, also.

I bought it because I'm bored with serving the same old plain or minimally enhanced veggies on the side of the family's plates every dinner. If I had access to the exotic veggies cataloged here, we wouldn't need recipes. And I certainly wouldn't be spoiling them by making a creamy soup in a bread bowl with them!

Vegetarians who live near a good farmer's market might like it better, since they do need to make complete meals out of veggies. And I did get a couple of ideas from it, so I'm not releasing it quite yet.

This book starts with some introductory material on the history of bread making and the ingredients used in baking bread, then moves into some nicely illustrated step-by-step techniques and a nod to the different equipment a bread-maker might want. After this preparation the book pushes into an encyclopedic look at different types of bread from around the world, with a pretty heavy emphasis on breads from the U.K. and Europe. Finally, after reading about all the tasty bread options and drooling over the full-color photography on every page, Ingram and Shapter give us over 100 step-by-step recipes for a selection of breads that we read about in the first section of the book.
