As always, an excellent overview of the most under-reported news (and over-reported "junk news") by the mainstream corporate media. Project Censored has its hands full these days considering the right-wing adoption of "Fake News" as a propaganda tool, and this installment of Censored finds itself walking the tightrope of both defending and criticizing mainstream reporting. This is most apparent with the article "Russiagate: Two-Headed Monster of Propaganda and Censorship," which takes corporate media to task for reporting too much about Russian interference in the US Elections, a position that seems counter-intuitive to me when considering the historic nature of the corruption exposed in the aftermath of the 2016 elections.

Many of the top 25 censored news items listed are particularly egregious due to their connection with other stories that have dominated the mainstream news cycle, such as the parkland Shooter's JROTC (and NRA) connections, the role of adoption agencies in child exploitation, and the increasing global wealth gap between the top 1% and everybody else.

With the increased scrutiny on news sources and the potential of ideological biases skewing or misrepresenting information, any tool that helps navigate the journalistic landscape is sorely needed, and Project Censored is still one of the more invaluable of these tools.

More people need to read this, especially the part on propaganda, but most of the book is wee worth reading. Other highlights cover healthcare reform in the US, exploitation of Africa and environmental issues. The main message, and a very important one, is the urgent need for independent investigative reporting and the need for more of our population to access such sources. It is only as citizens are well informed that they can intelligently participate in governance.
