You could say that this is a Yizkor book for the whole of Poland's children and youth. It certainly describes the children's sufferings in detail, and includes a few dozen black and white photos, many of which I'd never seen before. The authors did their homework and their research is superb. I learned a lot about the Lebensborn program; previously I had known little. I wish there hadn't been so many typos though.

I only have two caveats. The first is that little historical context is provided in this book. The authors just assume the reader knows the basics of the war and genocide. It's fortunate that I do, otherwise I would be frustrated. My second problem is that the book usually makes no differentiation between Polish Christians and Polish Jews. Although it's nice that they're being egalitarian, Christian children and Jewish children were persecuted in different ways and for different reasons. (For instance, a Jewish child would never become a Lebensborn no matter how Aryan its appearance.)

Overall this is worth reading, if you can find it.
