Biografía breve
E.A.J. Honigmann arrived with his family in England in 1935 at age 7 as a refugee from the Nazis. He took his first degree in English literature at the University of Glasgow, and earned his BLitt at Oxford. He was a founder of the Shakespeare Institute (University of Birmingham) in Stratford-upon-Avon, where he worked from 1951 to 1954. He received his DLitt at the University of Glasgow and then became Lecturer in English. In 1958, he married Dr. Elsie Packman and the couple had three children. Prof. Honigmann became Reader and then Joseph Cowen Professor of English Literature at Newcastle University. He was also leader of the English Department for 20 years until his retirement from active academia in 1989.
