Marston on rural custom and culture worth reading several times. Stegner, as always, on how the arid West and landscape creates its own culture. Bruce Babbitt before he was secretary of the interior totally understood the issues. Amazing he was able to change so little with how the BLM is run.

There is needed another wave of reform, one oriented toward a higher culture and Yellowstone everywhere. Shine a light on how extraction is only 3% of the Western economy and quite running th West like it is the only thing. Switch the West to sustainable energy production, lose public land livestock grazing and the West will be an economic and environmental beacon on the hill.… (más)
