I reviewed multiple books in the settling the west series, and found them to be seriously lacking in terms of both information and readability. The text is boring, and the information provided is superficial and often presented without necessary context.

Although this quick and fun book is targeted for juveniles and young adults, I, approaching my forties, found it engaging as well. Peppered with interesting anecdotes of family history discoveries, it does a great job spurring the reader's imagination, cheering them on to uncover the mystery of the social and political trends that combined to result in their very own present and personal state of being.

Experienced genealogists will notice an absence of lists, charts and research logs, but Hilton still adequately makes a case to the young reader for the need to keep one's "meta-information" organized. I hope to find more adult literature on this topic that reads as effortlessly as this one did.… (más)
