The style categories at the beginning didn't do much for me - modern, bohemian, etc. - but the pattern principles are useful.

This is helpful, but no more detailed than the information already available on the author's website. She also completely avoids one of the most common figure types: where the waist/torso is wider than the hips or shoulders (someone with a spare tire, in other words). Whether it's because she can't think of any flattering designs for that shape or because she honestly didn't think of it, it's the biggest flaw I found in this book.

Clear, no-nonsense instructions for pattern modification make this book a must for any knitter who's nervous about making a sweater that fits. I loved Herzog's voice, which is prevalent throughout the piece, and the pictures are simply fantastic. There are a variety of different body types represented and it was nice to read something that treated them all with equal respect and attention.

I really loved the idea of Amy Herzog's Knit to Flatter book, which is about finding and adjusting patterns to suit you. It's a great book (from what I can tell without actually following any of the patterns since I just had it from the library for 3 weeks), but I found that the patterns didn't inspire me, so it hasn't gone on the list of things I want for my personal knitting reference library.

Knit Wear Love has solved this problem for me: rather than focusing on body type, the designs are more heavily focused on aesthetic: classic, sporty, bohemian, etc. She's got some really cute details, and it's showcased by lovely photography. Plus, of course, huge numbers of charts, advice about fit, etc. It's pretty much everything I wanted in a sweater book. I borrowed a copy from the library to check it out, but this one is going on my personal library wishlist for when I'm interested in tackling a sweater for myself.… (más)
